USUI SHIKI RYOHO - stress reduction An Ancient Art of Natural Healing Create Balance and Harmony on the Physical, Emotional and Mental Levels The unseen life force that flows through each of us can be channeled and utilized to provide soothing, healing, supportive energy by those who have undergone training. The use of this force for healing has a history going back in time to pre-biblical times in the West, and for several thousand years in the East. The father of modern medicine, Hippocrates, stated in the Fifth Century B.C. “It is believed by experienced doctors that the heat which oozes out of the hand, on being applied to the sick, is highly salutary. …It is known to some of the learned that health may be implanted in the sick by certain gestures, and by contact, as some diseases may be communicated from one to another.” In the Bible we find that Jesus healed the sick through the “laying on of hands”, certainly using the ability to transmit this life force to an extraordinary degree. Similarly in the East, the knowledge of the energy flow, known as ki or chi in the Chinese tradition, or as “prana” in the Ayurvedic tradition, has a long history of almost 5000 years. Health practitioners from these modalities codified and developed a system that included extensive use of this energetic healing technique. In more recent times, Dr. Mikao Usui brought together much diverse information and developed the systematic teaching known today under the name of Reiki. It is to Dr. Usui that the formal methods of teaching Reiki were credited, and it is from his time that reiki practice took on a life of its own. Today there are hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world who have experienced the very real energy that develops through the practice of reiki. In some countries it is being used as a first aid system, while in others it is used as adjunctive, or supportive therapy for chronically ill individuals to help them gain quality of life and reduce their pain and suffering. But perhaps the most widespread use of Reiki is for its ability to provide stress reduction and wellness therapy, ensuring that with regular sessions, an individual can be energized and feel better, respond better and enjoy the benefits of true health and wellness. The life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras, meridians, nadis and marmas. (Ayurvedic and Chinese Traditions) It also flows around us creating an energy field known as the aura. This life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow is blocked, restricted or obstructed, it causes diminished response or function in one or more organs or tissues, and reduces the “radiance” of the aura at the same time. This life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It can be disrupted, not only through physical causes, but through acceptance of negative emotions or thoughts, whether conscious or unconscious. Stress is one of the most potent disruptors of energy flow, and our modern fast-paced lifestyle keeps most people out of balance much of the time. Reiki works by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and emotions are attached and blocking the flow. This causes the negative energy blockages to break apart and fall away. The result is that reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways. The energy flow is restored and as a result the client feels refreshed, relaxed and invigorated. Reiki and the Medical Profession: Reiki is considered to be a complementary health care modality by many in the medical profession. At hospitals and clinics across America, Reiki is beginning to gain acceptance as a meaningful and cost-effective way to improve patient care. “Reiki sessions cause patients to heal faster with less pain.” Says Marilyn Vega, RN, a private duty nurse at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York. Reiki helps accelerate recovery from surgery, improves mental attitude and reduces the negative effects of medication and other medical procedures. Dr. Mike Cantwell, a pediatrician with the California Pacific Medical Center has used reiki successfully as part of his medical practice. “I have found Reiki to be useful in the treatment of acute illnesses such as musculoskeletal injury/pain, headache, acute infections, and asthma. Reiki is also useful for patients with chronic illnesses, especially those associated with chronic pain.” These are not isolated results, but illustrations of a trend toward holistic alternative complementary therapy being utilized successfully in conjunction with more traditional Western medicine. Reiki is guided by God-consciousness and therefore cannot do any harm. It automatically creates the appropriate energy flow for the need. The practitioner does not direct the healing and does not decide what to work on, or what to heal, and therefore does not in fact interfere with this energy. Whether you consider it to be God, or Nature, the interactive wisdom inherent in all life and creation moves, flows and acts automatically, perfectly and with balance and harmony when it is called into our lives.
Reiki classes are your opportunity to learn how to practice reiki yourself. Karuna Krinsky, as a certified Traditional Usui Reiki Master is qualified to teach Reiki level I, II and III. Upon successful completion of the course you receive your certificate for that level. Karuna Krinsky began her work with Reiki in the spring of 1999. She was trained in the First Degree and Second Degree of Reiki in 1999 and received her Third Degree (Master) Certificate in March 2001. She has been a certified Reiki Teacher in the Usui Method of Natural Healing (Usui Shiki Ryoho) since April 2002. Anyone who has made a commitment to love and nonviolence is qualified to learn Reiki, no special requirements are necessary. People at any age or background can easily obtain the healing power of Reiki in a two day workshop for the first degree Reiki. Reiki is communicated from Reiki Master to student through an attunement process. The attunements (there are four in the first degree) open our subtle energy channels and keep us attuned to the universal life energy. We become channels for the Reiki force that will remain with us for the rest of our lives and influences our karma. You will be able to immediately use Reiki on yourself, family members or friends (with their permission), pets and plants. Daily self treatments are highly recommended and create a mental state of meditative quality and promotes healing of body, mind and spirit. Courses are held regularly throughout the year. Contact us to find out the current schedule and obtain information on cost, location and availability. Class size is strictly limited to provide the optimum experience. Mikao Usui What is a Reiki Master? I hear frequently that people would like to be a Reiki Master
because it looks better on their business card when they advertise Reiki
treatments.
This is hardly the definition of a true Reiki Master. Sometimes clients
don’t
want to receive treatments from a practitioner who is not a Reiki Master.
Although it may be true that the energy flow increases with further attunements
we are receiving in the next level of Reiki, it is not essential for
treatments at whatever level a practitioner is. More important is experience,
dedication, and love for Reiki. You do not need all kinds of titles,
letters, or syllables behind your name to be credible. Be who you are.
Appreciate who you are, and love what you do. The rest will take care
of itself. More Information about Reiki Classes
